Katy Keefe
Katy Keefe was born in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in 1982. Currently she is attending the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington where she is finishing her BA in Studio Art with an emphasis on Drawing.

Her work reflects her interest in abstraction found in nature. The series currently on exhibit at Rosewood Café was inspired by xeroxed bundles of wheat. She focused upon this subject at her study at the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan Ireland in the summer of 2003. Although based in abstraction, the drawings do make direct references to the natural world. What entices her most about drawing is the potential of graphite. Often drawing is disregarded as a serious art form, which she also believed until her studies in Ireland freed up these assumptions. She found that what she had been so diligently trying to express could best be communicated through the simple medium of the pencil. Self-expression dominates the composition when factors such as color and surface are take away; graphite allows a rapid execution. Through line, movement and vibrancy create her personal expression.
